Peace and Reconciliation

presented by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Claremont

Speaker:  Ryder Stevens, C.S.

Christian Science healer and lecturer

3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2010

Mudd Theater, Claremont School of Theology

1325 North College Avenue

Claremont, California 91711

(north side of Foothill, 3 blocks east of Indian Hill Blvd.)

Ryder is a well-traveled Christian Scientist. He served The Mother Church as a military chaplain in the US Army for 23 years and visited over 47 countries. He and his family lived in Germany three different times for a total of ten years.  As a graduate from the Boston University School of Theology with a Masters of Divinity degree in Old Testament History and Theology, he has a vibrant love of the Bible. In the military, he found the practical teachings of Christian Science opened the Scriptures and helped him reach people from vastly different backgrounds and faiths. The Christian Science Bible Lesson was the basis of his preaching in General Protestant services, as well as for the prayer breakfasts he conducted. This biblical basis of his preaching was the reason he was selected to serve as interim pastor for African American Gospel services.

The teachings of Christian Science inspired his work in resolving conflicts in countries torn apart by civil war as well as in Sub-Saharan Africa in developing local Peace Keeping military forces with high ethical and moral foundations. Ryder found the application of Christian Science especially helpful when working with faith-based Non-Government Organizations during crises from war, earthquakes, and disasters.

He enjoys sharing the biblical “primitive” Christianity that is Christian Science. A Christian Science Journal listed practitioner since 1995, he has had calls for Christian Science healing regularly since 1976. Ryder is a frequent contributor to the Christian Science periodicals, spirituality.com, and Radio Sentinel.

He and his wife, Beverly, have settled in Cave Creek, Arizona, 22 miles north of Phoenix.
